Part One: Writing (March)写作
Reason: During this month, we mainly focus on demonstrating the logic of English. Trying to make students get used to thinking in English and the whole English environment. The method we introduced is to help the students to translate English words in English. To test the mastery, this test will be set at end-March.
Test pattern: Students will be given around 20 English words they have learned this month, each of them will have 5 options in English translation or the circumstances that the word could be used. In addition, we’ll give the students extra bonus if they translate the words in English in their own way, with the answers correct.
Part two: Listening (April)听力
Reason: After two months learning, students should be able to understand more English because of the whole English environment. So we decide to test their listening by listening to the section B of their text book. There will be a bit difference between what they take as their normal English listening tests. This test is mainly focus on grabbing the general idea of the conversation, answering the questions by writing instead of clicking.
Test pattern: 5 dialogues will be tested in the exam. In each text, around 3 questions will be given, students need to answer them by writing. Questions will be involved in the content of the dialogue, including general idea and details.
Part three: Oral English (May)口语
Reason: The reason we put this test in the third month is that it’s the most appropriate time to test the oral skill of students. Both better students and weak students are able to express themselves in their own way, more or less.
Test pattern: In this test, we’ll invite several foreign teachers to be the judge. They will be given the words that have been learned this semester, and use the words to create some questions fit to students’ level. Students will do a self-introduction first which occupied 30% of the score, then they will extract one of the questions and answer it in English, which occupied 70%.
Part four: Performance (June)表演
Reason: After 4 months studying, students will have accumulated enough materials. In this time, they can bring them into play. This test mainly shows their creation and the usage of what they’ve learnt. Through the performance, we can test students’ fluency of using English and their confidence.
Test pattern: Test will be done in groups, scoring individually. Students should choose their teamers first, make a dialogue through the learned words, perform it and answer some questions from judges. Fluency, accuracy, creation, confidence, mastery will be all considered in the judging system. The judges will be all invited foreign teachers.
